Walpole Olympics discriminates against those not online

Over 50 % of Ealing Residents are not online yet pay council tax and other taxes.And yet after many phone calls, no one can tell me what facility exists for local residents (especially the over 60's ) for them to be included in the tickets for the Walpole park event.Nor can anyone come clean on the ratio of actual residents to invited dignitaries which I understand is near 70/30 - 30 being the residents.The whole thing seems rather discriminatory towards those who have broadband - and hi speed broadband at that and is wholly discriminatory against bona fide residents who do not have such wonders.This totally flies in the face of what the Olympic ethic is supposed to be about -Fairness and equality. Hardly apparent here.

If you have a child with Special needs fill in the LEA  consultation

It has not been that widely publicised but LBE are consulting about the provision of special school and provision for children with special needs in school as a result of having to increase the number of school places in line with the increase in primary and secondary school places.There is a consultation of the website http://www.ealing.gov.uk/info/200628/current_consultations/1219/future_special_educational_provision_in_ealing_consultation

Cabinet maker/Joiner wanted

Hi, we have been unable to find a cabinet/carcass that fits what we need in our kitchen/diner, can anyone recommend a local tradesman who does this type of work as we'd rather use local if possible. Also, does anyone know if this is much more expensive than your typical Wickes/Magnets/Homebase kitchen units?ThanksJohn

Take cover! Good News

It's taken ten years but today after dozens of letters to Ken, Kiley, Hendy and Boris and Leon Daniels but at long last a bus shelter has been installed at South Ealing Station.And good news in Brentford too -  after 11 years of asking they have finally resurfaced the unwalkable footpaths in St Paul's Park.Now I wonder if South Ealing and Ealing Roads will get resurfaced before the bumps cause another mains to fail.......

Wallpaper and Accessories

I have an Interior Solutions company and have over the last 6 months completed a number of projects.  As always an element of "changing designs" take place therefore I have available rolls of wallpaper, 3 rolls in one design and same batch colour would make a feature wall, Natasha Marshall paper normally retails at £38 inc vat  available at £15 each roll.   9 rolls of again same paper same batch at £10 per roll.    White drum silk lampshade 35 cm across 25 cm top to bottom £20.   Please feel free to get in touch must collect.

Tube works near Ealing Common

For around the last month or so, TFL have decided that the track between Turnham Green and Ealing Broadway needs work. This work has been taking place in evenings and gets particularly loud on bank holiday weekends. I live alongside the tube line, right opposite Ealing Common station (as I am sitting here at 12.30 at night, there is currently 7 workers and a JCB around 50 yards from my ground floor bedroom window) The workers seem to have no concept of the fact it's late at night, and are shouting loudly to one another. Things were even worse this morning at 5.45am (on a Saturday) when they were out there with a chainsaw of some kind - Not the nicest thing to wake up to when you're looking forward to a lie in after a week of work!I understand that works on the tube line need to be done, but doing them at such unsocial hours is completely unfair. I'm getting very little sleep because of it, and can only imagine what a nightmare it must be for couples nearby with children. Surely it must be breaking some sort of environmental law regarding noise pollution?I was wondering if anyone else is being effected by these works in the same way? I have taken photos and been making notes of the antisocial times work has been carried out. If you have taken any action against it, please let me know. I am going to try and compile a list of residents that have been effected, as I feel that several names should get my complaint further than just mine.Thanks,Andrew

Following on from the success of my plumber request, we now need a reliable tree surgeon.Had 2 round so far, one never came back with quotes, the others made us wait 6 weeks for an appointment and then "forgot."Do these people not want work?!Thanks!

Painter/ decorator

Sadly, using walking sticks rather precludes climbing ladders to paint the front of my house!There are loads of individuals and companies listed in the 'services' area but I would appreciate poiters and details of any that other forum members have actually recently used.Very many thanks in advance.

Beating The Bounds

Stuck for something to do with the kids that won't break the bank this Bank Holiday Monday? Come and Beat The Bounds, it's an old custom of walking around the Parish borders and smacking certain stones and marks with a stick to keep interlopers away. What could be more fun? It starts at The Fox in Green Lane at 12.noon and the 12km walk ends up back there a couple of hours later. It's an event that raises money for Hanwell Carnival (June 16th)so we hope you can get sponsored but come along anyway.Besum (stick) provided, comfy shoes are down to you.

Recycling mixed - clarity sought from council

A question for Councillor Mahfouz. There was a video posted showing Enterprise putting green box recycling (glass, cans, cardboard, paper, juice cartons) into a bin lorry, then putting white sack recycling (plastic) into the same lorry. Message from council: don't panic it's all going off to a centre to be sorted not to landfill so carry on recyling. Well if that's the case why have we been putting some waste in a green box and some stuff in a white sack for years. It would be much quicker for us and the collection team to put it all in the same container, wouldn't it?
