What do they actually do???
Community Police - what do they actually do? My friend's son is a serving Police Officer but even he is wondering why we have Community Police. He calls them 'Smurfs' but I have heard the term 'Chocolate teapots' in order words, not fit for purpose!I believe Community Police can earn £25,000 but have no powers to carry out an arrest. Is this fact?If so, perhaps they should be given powers to hand out fines for people dropping litter and other antisocial behaviour? Perhaps the hope is that their presence on the streets deter would be criminals. Mind you a criminal would hardly fear the Community Police Officer if they have no specific powers of arrest.I have heard that the only thing a Community Police Officer can do is ring the actual Police for assistance. Surely not! Anyone can do that without a salary of £25,000.Maybe they should either be given more powers or actually employ them as fully fledged Police Officers. After all their uniforms have to be paid for, plus their salaries. When money is tight perhaps some savings can be made here. Can anyone explain the situation?
